Naklua beach hit by raw sewerage

News reports from Naklua today suggest that tourists near Wong Amat beach, Bang lamung, Chonburi woke up to an unpleasant surprise with the beach covered in grey-brown matter. It turns out that untreated sewerage has made its way onto the beach. In photos, dirty water can be seen forming a fountain above the surface of the water. A disgusting smell permeated the area. An investigation showed that the water may have come from one of the many nearby condo buildings. According to locals, this is not the first time that raw sewerage has discharged, and it sometimes happens especially during rainy periods and high tides.

As we know, Pattaya is a fast-developing place and sometimes infrastructure has struggled to keep up with the growing demand from tourists and foreign investors driving demand for more and more condo buildings. In Thailand, foreigners are permitted only to own condos, as ownership of land is restricted to Thai nationals and Thai companies with majority Thai ownership. The authorities in Pattaya are aware of the need to preserve the natural environment. Just recently the police chief claimed that tourists mostly visit Pattaya for the beautiful natural environment.
