GUEST Friendly Hotels

It is sometimes known as “guest friendly” or having a so-called “joiner fee” for a person who was not there at your check-in to come to your hotel room with you. In Pattaya most hotels will not charge such a fee however it is good to know before you book as it can run from 500-1000 baht or more per person per night. Generally it is charged by hotels that wish to protect their image or avoid any trouble with the authorities and so they charge the fee to deter this kind of behaviour at their establishment.  The Hilton for example has been known to charge a fee if bringing a girl to the room, however like everything in Thailand this policy is not uniformly applied by staff. Some have emailed that there is no joiner fee.

here are some hotels that have been mentioned on pattaya forum.

Note: this list is current as of today’s date, 8 August 2017 and has been confirmed by us. however, you should send the hotel an email asking if they have any additional joiner fee in case the policy changes due to recent crackdowns by police in Pattaya and elsewhere in Thailand.

We have been travelling to Pattaya for more than 10 years and we have never experienced a joiner fee being charged. We have personally stayed in around 50+ different hotels and guest houses of varying price between budget to 5 star luxury hotels and this has been our experience. A little politeness and acting with decorum and dressing appropriately for the premises helps a lot especially at higher end properties. Generally proprietors are aware of Pattaya’s reputation and want to protect their own image as well. some staff will “play dumb” if you contact them with an inquiry about joiner fees or whether the hotel is guest friendly. This is usually done to save face as they do not like to admit the things that everyone knows happens.

GUEST FRIENDLY HOTELS

we have contacted these hotels to ask if they charge an additional joiner fee or if they are guest friendly. when we receive a response from a staff member we will add the hotel’s name in English to this list. Note that even if a hotel is guest friendly they may require a Thai national i.d. card to be produced. This is for your own safety and also Thai law requires hotels to hold i.d. of guests. If there are any issues, the hotel may help you by having a copy of the i.d. Also some hotels will place a call after your guest has left asking if everything is okay. This provides you with an additional level of safety and assurance should anything go wrong. Page 10 for example takes the i.d. and holds it until the guest leaves, and afterwards a receptionist will call you in your room to confirm that everything is to your satisfaction.

please note, we are not providing an endorsement of these hotels. we recommend you read reviews on travel sites such as tripadvisor.com to learn more about the general quality of facilities, staff etc. this list is intended to provide you with an extra level of information, namely whether the joiner fee is charged and the hotel is guest friendly, that you may not be able to get from the more popular travel websites reviews which are aimed more at general interest tourists.

OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER

Street noise. In Thailand motor vehicles are generally permitted to drive around with loud exhausts, engine noise, subwoofers and stereo systems turned up at any time of day or night. this is true also of Pattaya but with the addition of large diesel buses and vans carrying tourists around. Do not expect the main streets to be quiet. There is generally a trade-off involved between prime location and noise. If noise is likely to bother you or prevent you sleeping it is advisable to select a location down a quiet side street (soi) rather than the main roads such as Beach road, Second Road and Pattaya Klang.

Bars noise note that beer bars and other venues may also play loud music until 3am or 4am in the morning. If this bothers you then try and check the location of your hotel before booking.

Security. it is generally safe to bring valuables but if you are paranoid check the room has a safe that allows you to choose a new access code that only you know. some hotels have a main safe at reception if the in-room safe is not big enough for a laptop or other bulky item.

Airconditioning . Check if the room has it and that it works, and whether it is a modern split system or an older inbuilt unit. sometimes aircon can be noisy which makes it difficult to sleep well.

Bed comfort. in Thailand it is common to find very hard mattresses by Western standards. for a longer stay definitely check the bed suits your needs and won’t cause you back pain.

Parking if you or your guest require car parking then this is something to take into consideration. It is generally fine to park a rented motorbike almost anywhere that there is space for it.

Bathroom at the low end, showers may be Thai style and the whole room is considered to be a “wet” room meaning that all the surfaces, floor, toilet seat etc will get wet.

NOT GUEST FRIENDLY

these hotels may still accept your guests onto the premises however there may be a check of their Thai national i.d. card to verify that they are over the age of 20. there may also be an additional fee charged by these establishments on a per-night basis. Practices can vary even between individual staff members at the same hotel, for example you may find some are more lenient than others, or may be receptive to a small tip to themself. If you are trying to minimise the inconvenience involved in your stay then we recommend contacting the hotel to see if it is possible to waive this policy. Be careful for example booking with an “A One” property as there is a similarly named wing of the same group that IS guest friendly but the majority of the property is not. It pays to double check the exact name of the hotel on your booking so that you avoid any mistaken identity.

that concludes our current list of guest friendly hotels in Pattaya. Thailand is a rapidly developing country and the government plans a rapid infrastructure and economic expansion plan for the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, with high speed rail planned to link through Chonburi province to U-tapao airport from Bangkok and other grand plans which may or may not be implemented, only time will tell. During this period new hotels are likely to be opening all the time so we will keep this list updated.

If you are travelling back to Bangkok, then you may want to check out which hotels are guest friendly. Some examples near the entertainment zone are the Ruamchitt hotel, iStudio Nana, etc. Hotels near the areas of Nana, Soi Cowboy will generally have an id check procedure.
