Buddhist holiday 29 May no alcohol sales

Tuesday, 29 May 2018, is a National holiday in Thailand. Wan Wisakha Bucha (วิสาขบูชา – aka [Visakha Buddha Day, Vesak, Buddha Day) is a Buddhist observance that commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. Government offices, including Immigration, will be closed, and alcohol sales are prohibited (00:00 – 23:59). Remember to plan ahead and get your booze, although of course there will still be drinks available if you know where to look.

There will be candle-lit processions after sunset at some of the main temples around Thailand. Devotees walk 3 times around the temple/main pagoda/ordination hall clockwise holding a lotus flower, a candle, and 3 joss sticks/incense. Other activities on Wisakha Bucha Day include: giving alms to the monks, listening to Buddhist teachings at the temple, and making merit at the temple by donating money or foods.
